Types of Household waste

The following three categories define the different types of typical household waste. Please help maintain a safe environment and follow proper waste disposal methods for the different types of waste. This information applies to both the landfill site and scheduled collection in your neighborhood.

Recycle

Recycle

The following items are accepted as recyclables at the landfill, and in your collected household waste with certain restrictions. 

Home Collection and/or Landfill

  • Corrugated cardboard (flattened)
  • Beverage containers
  • Mixed paper (office paper, flyers, shredded paper, paper bags, envelopes, paper egg cartons, gift wrap, greeting cards)
  • Household bottles and containers (metal cans, glass jars, yogurt and margarine containers)
  • Newsprint and heavy paper (magazines, phone books, catalogues)
  • Boxboard (cereal boxes, pasta boxes, cookie and tissue boxes)
  • Propane Tanks <20 lbs

Landfill Only

  • TV and computers 
  • Car batteries
  • Paint
  • Motor oil and filters
  • Automotive tires
  • Scrap metal (BBQ, lawnmowers, car parts, bikes, washing machines, hot water tanks)
  • Concrete and asphalt
  • Fridges, freezers, air conditioners 
  • Rinsed agriculture chemical containers
Garbage

Garbage

The following items are accepted at the landfill and in your neighborhood collected household waste with certain restrictions.

Home Collection and/or Landfill

  • Plastic (toys, bubble wrap, cellophane, bakery containers, chip bags, cutlery)
  • Styrofoam (egg cartons, packaging)
  • Unrinsed food containers
  • Small household appliances (vacuums, toasters, coffee makers, VCR, phones, stereos, microwaves)
  • Diapers
  • Clothes
  • Food and yard waste
  • Soiled paper (tissue, paper towel)
  • Pizza boxes
  • Garden hoses
  • Pet food bags
  • Glass (dishes, mirrors, windows)
  • Kitty litter
  • Cold ashes
  • Vacuum bags

Landfill Only

  • Lumber
  • Shingles
  • Insulation and drywall
  • Furniture (mattresses, sofas, cupboards, tables)
  • Tree roots and stumps
  • Sod
  • Dishwashers
Eco Station

Eco Station

The following types of items are not permitted in the landfill or in collected household waste and must be taken to an Eco Station for proper disposal.

  • Cleaners (bleach, oven cleaners, rust removers)
  • Automotive liquids (antifreeze, gas, diesel, windshield washer fluid)
  • Herbicides and pesticides
  • Fire extinguishers
  • Syringes
  • Solvents and turpentine
  • Sealed drums
  • RV fridges
  • Household liquids (vegetable oil)
  • Flourescent lamps
  • PCB ballasts
  • Oily rags

Types of Waste

  • Recyclables - Items that can be reprocessed or re-purposed.

  • Garbage - Typical non-hazardous household waste. 

  • Hazardous Waste - Dangerous waste requiring special handling and disposal.

Residential Traffic

Tuesday to Saturday 9:00 am to 4:45 pm

Mondays 9:00am to 4:45pm

Late night Mondays begin May 1 and runs to the last Monday in August

9:00am to 8:45pm

CLOSED December 25, 26, 27

Commercial Traffic

Monday to Friday 9:00 am to 4:45 p.m.

Redwater Transfer Facility

CLOSED December 26, and 27

open Monday and Saturday 8:30am to 4:30pm

Wednesdays 10:00am  to 6:00pm

Summer hours begin Wednesday

May 3 and run to August 30th

Hours: 12:00pm (noon) to 8:00pm
