Accepted HSP examples may include:

• Non-refillable butane or isobutane camping-fuel cylinders
• Non-refillable MAPP gas cylinders
• Flammable aerosol degreasers
• Flammable aerosol adhesives
• Flammable aerosol lubricants
• Flammable aerosol fuel treatments and additives

IMPORTANT DISTICTIONS

Acceptance requirements: The product must also qualify under an accepted HSP category, such as flammable, corrosive, toxic or domestic pesticide. The explosive symbol alone is not enough. Pressurized containers must be no larger than 680 g or 24 oz and must remain tightly sealed in their original, labelled containers.

Empty aerosol containers: Beginning October 1, 2026, empty non-hazardous aerosol containers are accepted with packaging and paper recycling. Aerosols containing hazardous products remain in the HSP stream.

Flammables & Containers

Roseridge can accept liquid, solid, and aerosol flammables. To be accepted, the product label must show the flammable hazard symbol described in the Consumer Chemicals and Containers Regulations.

Examples:

• BBQ Lighter fluid
• Camping fuel
• Fondue fuel
• Flammable degreasers
• Flammable fuel treatment and additives
• Flammable liquid adhesives
• Flammable lubricants
• Kerosene
• Methanol
• Methyl hydrate
• Non-refillable fuel cylinders

Flammables – Gasoline

To be accepted, gasoline must be returned in a 25L or smaller sealed jerry/gas can.

Corrosives & Containers

Roseridge can accept liquid, solid, and aerosol corrosives. To be accepted, the product label must show the corrosive hazard symbol described in the consumer Chemicals and Containers Regulations.

Examples:

• Grout cleaner
• Masonry cleaner
• Rust remover
• Kitchen cleaner
• All-purpose cleaner
• Ammonia

Domestic Pesticides & Containers

Roseridge can accept liquid, solid, and aerosol domestic pesticides. To be accepted, the product label must have:

• The Pest Control Product (PCP) number
• The word ‘domestic’
• The word ‘DANGER’ or ‘WARNING’ together with an octagon OR diamond symbol

Examples:

• Weed killer
• Hornet killer
• Rat poison

Toxics & Containers

Roseridge can accept liquid, solid, and aerosol toxics. To be accepted, the product label must show the toxic hazard symbol described in the consumer Chemicals and Containers Regulations.

Examples:

• Automotive additives
• Automotive parts cleaners
• Automotive antifreeze
• Tar remover
• Bug remover

Household Batteries

AA, AAA, C, D, and 9V

Alkaline and carbon-zinc batteries

Recoverable materials include:

lead, zinc, and manganese

When recycled, these materials can be recovered instead of being lost in disposal.

Button Batteries

Watch batteries, hearing aid batteries, and small electronics batteries

Recoverable materials include:

lithium, mercury, and silver

Although small, when many button batteries end up in the landfill, the materials they contain build up instead of being recovered.

Rechargeable Batteries

Lithium-ion, nickel-cadmium (NiCd), nickel-metal hydride (NiMH)

These batteries, including tool and toy power packs, contain recoverable materials such as:

lithium, nickel, cadmium, cobalt, and copper

Designed to be collected and processed through dedicated recovery systems.

Automotive Batteries

Electric Vehicle (EV) Batteries

Accepted at the Morinville Location only

When recovered, these batteries contain valuable materials:

AUTOMOTIVE: lead and sulfuric acid

EV: lithium, nickel, cobalt, copper, and manganese

Because of their size and energy capacity, they require specialized handling.

Before You Recycle

• Remove batteries from devices whenever possible
• Keep loose batteries contained for transport

• Ask staff if you’re unsure where a battery belongs.

Examples of non-accepted products:

• Any product whose primary, intended use is ‘down-the-drain’ (e.g. drain opener, bleach)
• Insect repellents intended for personal use
• Flammable products intended for use related to paint are designated materials under ARMA’s Paint Stewardship Program. 
• Ammunition
• Biodegradable cleaners
• Caulking compound
• Commercial, industrial or agricultural products
• Diesel
• Mercury switches
• Plumbing antifreeze
