Year-Round HSP

Hazardous Special Products (HSP)

Eligible Hazardous Special Products can be brought to both Roseridge locations year-round during regular operating hours.

To be accepted through the year-round HSP program, the product must fall within an eligible category and display the appropriate consumer hazard label.

Accepted year-round categories include:

Flammables & containers
Corrosives & containers
Toxics & containers
Domestic pesticides & containers
Eligible pressurized products & containers

Check the Label

Look for the applicable consumer hazard symbol on the product label. Eligible symbols appear within an octagon or inverted triangle.

Important: The explosive symbol alone does not make a product eligible for year-round HSP collection. The product must also qualify under another accepted HSP category.

Bringing Gasoline? Gasoline is accepted year-round in quantities of up to 25 L and must be brought in a sealed jerry can.

Now Accepted Through ARMA

As of Aug. 1, Roseridge also accepts the following materials year-round through Alberta's used oil recycling program:

Windshield washer fluid and containers
Diesel exhaust fluid and containers
Eligible antifreeze and containers

Keep materials in their original containers whenever possible and do not mix different fluids.

Some empty household product containers can go into household recycling instead of going through the HSP program starting Oct. 1.

HHW Round-Up Events Only

Household Hazardous Waste (HHW)

Some household hazardous materials are not accepted through the year-round HSP program and can only be brought to Roseridge during designated Household Hazardous Waste Round-Up events.

Accepted at HHW Round-Ups include:

Cleaning products intended for down-the-drain use — bleach and drain openers
Personal insect repellents
Biodegradable cleaners
Caulking compounds
Diesel
Brake fluid
Plumbing antifreeze
Pool & spa chemicals
Mercury-containing products and mercury switches
Glues, adhesives & resins
Fireworks, flares & explosives
Ammunition
Commercial, industrial or agricultural hazardous products
Unlabelled or unknown household chemicals

Check the Label

Products displaying WHMIS or TDG hazard labels are not accepted through the year-round HSP program.

If a product displays these labels, or you cannot identify what it contains, save it for an HHW Round-Up event.

Important Notes for Residents:

Use up household cleaners when possible before disposal. Many cleaning products are designed to be safely diluted and washed down drains.

When finished, recycle the container instead of disposing of unused products.

Check the label! If the product has a CCCR symbol (octagon/triangle) → Drop it off year-round.

If the product has a red diamond or circle (WHMIS or TDG) → Wait for an HHW Round-Up Event.
